When It comes to choosing a wedding hairstyle, there are so many things to factor in. This can make it one of the most stressful parts! "Do I have enough hair?", "Do I have the right texture?", "Can my hairstylist do this?". This is one of the reasons why having a photo, or a few photos, of what type of hairstyles you like, can make this part of your wedding fun and relaxing. There are many below that are either from pinterest or blogs that we see all the time and are beautiful popular styles. The others are hairstyles of our own that have made clients extremely happy. I have listed the hair textures and lengths needed to achieve these looks Just because we see a hairstyle over and over doesn't mean that we make it look exactly the same as everyone else's. Everyone has a unique style and unique hair. That gives your stylist the opportunity to create your perfect updo. If you show a few different photos to your stylist, they can also combine your favorite things about them and leave out anything you don't like about them. Keep in mind that if you do not naturally have the hair for the do you like, you can always add extensions to complete your bridal hair and makeup look.
A smooth classy updo is perfect for dressing up with some flowers. The textured contrast of the flowers looks very elegant with the smoother texture of the hair.
Hair texture needed: Medium to Thick
Hair length needed: Medium to long
Recommendations: Get highlights or a second color in your hair to really show the smooth texture of the updo.
This style is an extremely textured all down do. You would need semi short layering in your haircut to achieve that textured look in the crown and mohawk area of the head
Hair texture needed: Medium to Thick
Hair length needed: Medium to Long
Recommendations: Ask your hairstylist if cutting shorter layers to achieve this look will work with your current haircut
Vintage looks are especially popular for weddings because they are classic and never go out of style. You can get very creative with the hair and makeup and you wont look back on your wedding photos wondering "what was I thinking?!".
Hair texture needed: Thin to Medium
Hair length needed: Medium
Recommendations: If you have short layers, grow them out a little while so that you dont have fly aways sticking out in the middle of your roll.
This is an amazing textured cascading style. The bottom would be difficult to keep into that one curl throughout the night, but would last for walking down the isle and photos.
Hair texture needed: Thick
Hair length needed: Long
Recommendations: Would add extensions to almost anyones hair to have this full of a look.
A low loose looking side bun is extremely popular and very customizable. You can have it smooth and classic or more textured and intricate like this photo
Hair texture needed: Thin to Medium
Hair length needed: Medium short to medium
Recommendations: Lighter hair shows texture better so if you have dark hair, get some highlights or peek-a-boos put in to show depth.
I love bridal hair and makeup before and afters. Always a good way to see what you are getting when you hire someone.
This is one of the most seen photos at my salon. The volume and messy texture take away the fear of having a slicked back tight updo.
Hair texture needed: Medium to thick
Hair length needed: Medium to long
Recommendations: If you dont like a middle part or dont have those short pieces of hair in the face framing area, ask your wedding stylist to give you this style with a loose side part
(Another great wedding hair and makeup before and after) This unique style has texture all the way around the hair line and is a great updo to add flowers or accessories to.
Hair texture needed: All types
Hair length needed: All types
Recommendations: It is best to have bangs for this style so that the hair at the forehead doesn't get in the way of seeing the texture of the updo from the front. This is an easy style to do with short hair
This style is very loose and elegant. You will need long enough layers to hang loos in the front and reach the side bun toward the back.
Hair texture needed: Medium
Hair length needed: Medium
Recommendations: She has a very far side part to give the volume on top and the nice curve above the forehead. The look wont be the same if you are not comfortable with having a part that far over.
Having Highlights or Peek-a-boos in dark hair can help show more depth and texture in hairstyles.
Hair texture needed: Medium to thick
Hair length needed: Medium to long
Recommendations: Blonde hairstyles are easy to see the texture in, but if you have dark hair, highlights or hair accessories will really help add a little something to the style.
This style is great to have texture and volume without any hair in your face or worrying about wind blowing your hair in your face.
Hair texture needed: Medium to thick
Hair length needed: Medium to long
Recommendations: Having face framing or long bangs will help to get curl texture at the front of the updo instead of it lust looking like a smooth awkward bump from the front.
This is a great way to add some formality to a length of hair that you don't want to put in an updo. This way you don't have to where it in the normal straighter way that you do every day.
Hair texture needed: Any texture
Hair length needed: Short
Recommendations: If you like a side band or hair covering your forehead, ask your stylist to move the braid back a little in the hairstyle to leave hair down on your forehead.
Having a lot of curl texture from the crown to the nape gives a modern and unique opportunity to put the veil underneath the updo. This way you don't have to hide your beautiful updo under the veil
Hair texture needed: Thick
Hair length needed: Medium to Long
Recommendations: Clip-in extensions would be recommending to achieve this full look if you don't have very thick hair.
This short style is a great way to break up the normal bob haircut look. This wavy curl is a great way to add body and fullness without looking like curly sue
Hair texture needed: Any Texture
Hair length needed: Short
Recommendations: Make sure you tell your stylist that you want wavy curls so that they don't make the curls to tight and short. A headband style tiara can dress up this style greatly.
This is a great way to get a very loose, not pulled tight, look in the front, but still have formality by bringing the hair to one side. The best part of the photo is the groom who was accidentally caught with a big "omg she is beautiful" smile.
Hair texture needed: Thick
Hair length needed: Medium to Long
Recommendations: consider the length of your hair when curled. If you need more length pick up some clip-ins to have larger curls flowing over your shoulder.
This is a classic elegant look great for adding accessories to. This bride's hair is actually a long A-line. The back of her hair only reaches just above her shoulders.
Hair texture needed: Medium to thick
Hair length needed: All Types
Recommendations: Having the curled bun low at the nape gives the opportunity for shorter hair to look longer and thicker.
This is a great way to add formality to a very short hairstyle. The headband style tiara helps separate the straighter look of the front from the curled look of the back
Hair texture needed: Any Texture
Hair length needed: Very short
Recommendations: The back of your haircut will need to have a lot of layering for this look. A bob or smooth A-line cut will not work.
This is a great half up style that is formal, but leaves some hair around the face.
Hair texture needed: All types
Hair length needed: Medium to Long
Recommendations: If you want this style make sure to ask you regular hairstylist to cut some face framing into your haircut so that this look can be achieved.
